Artificial turf in Anaheim, CA

Anaheim (Orange County) has about 340,512 residents. Here is what the local climate means for a turf lawn, which of our nine lines we would pick, and who can install it.

The climate in Anaheim, in numbers

Summer highs in Anaheim average 86 F. That is warm enough that a natural lawn needs regular watering from late spring through early fall.

With about 14 inches of rain a year, this is dry country. Watering is the largest cost of a natural lawn here, and often the first thing a utility restricts.

USDA hardiness zone 10a.

The $10 comes off a later turf order. Turf is cut to your length and cannot be returned, so a sample is the safe first step.

Water rules and rebates that apply in Anaheim

  • SoCal WaterSmart turf replacement rebate (Metropolitan Water District) rebate

Metropolitan's regional rebate pays per square foot of living lawn replaced with at least three plants per 100 square feet, at a rate set by each member agency, across Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties; approval is required before any turf is removed.

Artificial turf: Covers live plants only, not artificial turf: the terms state that no synthetic turf is allowed.

  • California nonfunctional turf irrigation ban (AB 1572) restriction

Water Code 10608.14 bans using drinking water on nonfunctional mowed grass at commercial, industrial, institutional, HOA common-area and public properties, phased in from January 1, 2027; single-family yards are not covered.

Artificial turf: The law does not mention artificial turf.
