Artificial turf in Fort Collins, CO

Fort Collins (Larimer County) has about 170,376 residents. Here is what the local climate means for a turf lawn, which of our nine lines we would pick, and who can install it.

The climate in Fort Collins, in numbers

Summer highs in Fort Collins average 85 F, a moderate summer where turf stays comfortable underfoot all day.

About 16 inches of rain fall a year, less than a lawn needs in summer, so irrigation makes up the difference.

Winter lows average 19 F with about 51 inches of snow. Turf tolerates both; let snow melt on its own rather than scraping it with a metal shovel.

USDA hardiness zone 5b.

The $10 comes off a later turf order. Turf is cut to your length and cannot be returned, so a sample is the safe first step.

Water rules and rebates that apply in Fort Collins

  • Colorado Turf Replacement Program (HB22-1151) rebate

The 2022 law funds the Colorado Water Conservation Board with $2 million to pay for voluntary replacement of irrigated turf with water-wise landscaping through local governments, districts, tribes and nonprofits that run their own programs; homeowners apply to those local programs.

Artificial turf: The law does not mention artificial turf; water-wise landscaping is defined by plants with lower water needs.
